American Football Mod roots back to late 2006, when Whookid spent time playing Dodgeball Mod with several of his friends in which they tried to simulate the game of football. Whookid grew tired of manually controlling the game of football through Avalanche's Dodgeball Mod so he began work on an altered version of Dodgeball Mod. This version turned out to be nowhere near what would later become version 1.0.

After taking several months off his altered Dodgeball Mod project, he began to work on it again with more effort from scratch. He continued learning to code, while he beginning to learn to create maps. Version 1.0 was released in late 2007. Whookid continued work on American Football Mod due to the numerous amount of positive feedback.

Over the course of four years, Whookid managed to put together one of the more detailed and realistic Counter-Strike mods. From crouching before plays, to no field goals and kickoffs, Whookid's idea of a simulated game of football far exceeded all expectations, including his own.
